About the SMH Advisory Committee

The University of Toronto recognizes the importance of the health and wellbeing of its students and improving the student experience of mental health services across its three campuses. The OVPS Tri-campus Student Mental Health Advisory Committee now in its third year, is an important forum through which students can provide important feedback, input and advice to inform the university’s mental health strategy.

The committee is chaired by Sandy Welsh, Vice-Provost, Students.

Who should participate?

Each year the committee is comprised of up to 30 students who represent the three university campuses and are selected through an application process that ensures representation from:

  • Graduate and undergraduate level
  • Domestic and International
  • Students who represent the diversity of the tri-campus University of Toronto student population

Students with experience participating in advisories, student working groups, or subcommittees, as well as those with experience in networking/leadership roles are also welcome to apply. Even if you have no similar experience, but an interest in student mental health, we welcome your application.

Membership is on a voluntary basis, there is no compensation involved.

Membership is a two-year term; overall continuity of membership will be maintained by having 50% of the committee in its first year and 50% in its second year of the term. Students who are graduating at the end of the year can serve a one-year term. Members will be asked to attend two 90-minute virtual meetings in the Fall and Winter semesters and may participate in consultations in smaller groups as needed.

Students who complete at least one year of the term are eligible for a co-curricular record.
