Policies Governing Compulsory Non-Academic Incidental Fees
The establishment of, or increases to, fees which fund University operated services (including those managed by a division of the University) are subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the Policy for Compulsory Non-Academic Incidental Fees and the Memorandum of Agreement between The University of Toronto, The Students' Administrative Council, The Graduate Students' Union and The Association of Part-time Undergraduate Students for a Long-Term Protocol on the Increase or Introduction of Compulsory Non-tuition Related Fees (commonly referred to as the ‘Protocol’).Changes to student society fees (including portions of fees which are designated for specific purposes) are subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the Policy for Compulsory Non-Academic Incidental Fees , the Handbook for Student Societies, and the societies’ own constitutions and/or by-laws.
Compulsory Fees and Refunds
All non-academic incidental fees charged to each student through his or her student account are compulsory. Fees charged for student and campus services provided by the University are established on the understanding that all students will contribute to the cost of these services. While some institutions recover these costs within tuition, the University of Toronto charges separate compulsory non-tuition fees for these services.
Certain portions of student society fees are refundable subject to terms and conditions established by the student societies. More information about obtaining refunds of portions of student society fees, including fees charged for health and dental plans , is available at the Student Accounts web site.
